Hmm... It seems the cost is something like 'ambition', or perhaps more closely 'malice'. The change in gender feels more like smoke and mirrors to distract from the true change.

Seems like this happens to me every summer. I get a lot done around May, slow down a bit in June, go dead as far as writing goes in July. Maybe it's the heat.
I don't think you've done a fairy/pixie transformation yet! Perhaps it'd help with the block, something new? Could be a standalone, or a new party member for the best RPG ever, even though it's a bit ill-timed?

DeleteAmen to that. Summer is far too hot for my liking. It's not even the heat that gets me, I just get exhausted after I'm exposed to heat.
